Blogging about EHRs from a social service perspective

Closed conferenced and discussion forums – great for insiders but bad for collaboration?

Many EHR vendors (at least in behavioral health / social services) have their own conferences and discussion forums.  Some of them, like PracticeFusion, you can read if you locate it through their website.  Others are strictly closed to their partners only.  In addition, I haven’t been able to find many general conferences or workshops on behavioral health / social services EHRs except for the Open Minds Technology & Informatics Institute.

So, are most of the conversations in the field occurring behind closed doors and if so, does this limit the collaboration to improve in the field?  If users are collaborating only with other users, then that software vendor’s product is the only one to improve.
